The North Florida Bicycle Club brings you its signature bicycle event, designed for cyclists of all abilities, the 24th Annual Tour de Forts Classic on April 26, 2015. Pedal through five centuries of Florida history.

Choose your distance from routes of 25, 38, 62 and 100 miles and start at Bartram Trail High School, named for William Bartram, a naturalist from Philadelphia. Ride along the St. Johns River which Bartram explored in 1774. Cycle the century route including the St. Augustine-Palatka Trail to Armstrong,  part of the Gullah Gechee Corridor which begins in the barrier islands off the Carolinas. Bike by fields of potatoes and cabbages. Ride into the Ancient City of St. Augustine, the oldest city in America, now celebrating its 450th year, and pass by the Castillo de San Marcos, built by the Spanish in 1672. Not all is ancient in St. Augustine with the Ponce de Leon Hotel, now Flagler College, built by Henry Flagler in 1885-87 and the recently opened Civil Rights Museum commemorating the central role played by St. Augustine in the struggles of 1963-4. Finish your century by cycling up the Atlantic coast before heading back across the intracoastal to the start.

This supported ride includes pre-ride snacks, rest stops, post-ride barbecue lunch, mechanical support and roving SAGs to make your ride safe and memorable.

There is a lot to see and do in this part of Florida so arrive on Friday or Saturday and make your ride a weekend getaway. Spend Saturday visiting and exploring the beautiful First Coast region or join one of our club's many group rides (click here for schedule). Average temperatures in late April range from the 60s to the 80s for perfect biking and sightseeing weather. There is plentiful hotel space with packages available as well as camping. See below for information.
