NFBC Charity Team SMART Ride 2 days / 165 miles Miami to Key West

About this event
Join the NFBC Charity Team for the 2022 SMART Ride. The SMART Ride is a non-competitive cycling event to help those infected, affected or at risk for HIV and AIDS in Florida.

This ride counts for club mileage and points.
The NFBC Charity Team will be supporting the 2022 SMART Ride which is a the 165-mile Miami-to-Key-West journey takes bicyclists through the entire Keys island chain along scenic Florida Keys Overseas Highway and Heritage Trail routes. The event typically attracts 400 to 500 solo riders and 250 volunteers
The SMART Ride is now the 2nd largest AIDS bicycle ride in the country, and the only one of its size to give back 100%. Since 2003 over $12.4 Million has been raised and 100% of it returned to help those infected, affected or at risk for HIV and AIDS in Florida.
The SMART Ride is a fully-supported ride which includes sweep and SAG vehicles. Pit stops located every 13-17 miles to restock on snacks and rehydrate. We provide overnight housing for the participants, all meals, a medical team, massage team, bike parking team, etc. all with the your safety in mind.
Tentative Schedule:
DAY 1 – Friday, November 18
- Depart at sunrise from the Watsco Center located at 1245 Dauer Drive, Coral Gables, FL 33146. Breakfast provided.
- Ride a full century (100 miles with rest stops approximately every 15-20 miles). Pit Stops along the route will provide snacks, water, Gatorade, oranges, bananas, peanut butter and more. Lunch is provided at the lunch rest stop.
DAY 2 – Saturday, November 19
- Depart at 8:00 am /Breakfast provided.
- Ride approximately 65 miles with rest stops every 15-20 miles to Key West. Pit Stops along the route will provide snacks, water, Gatorade, oranges, bananas, peanut butter and more.
- Arrive in Key West Saturday afternoon.
- Once all riders are in (by 2 PM), there is a 4-mile police escort and parade around Key West, and down famed Duval Street to cheering crowds.
- The parade ends at the Truman Waterfront Park.
- Closing ceremonies.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER WITH THE NFBC
This ride is open to all NFBC members and can count towards your NFBC club points and mileage totals!
All you have to do is:
1) Register directly for the SMART Ride!
2) Wear your NFBC club gear!
3) Sign the NFBC sign-in sheet and follow all NFBC ride rules.
